Parliamentarians of Osogbo South Local Council Development Area on Friday shunned the invitation of the Osun House of Assembly over the chairman’s impeachment crisis rocking the council.
The Chairman of the council, Honourable Akeem Olaoye was purportedly impeached by the council’s parliamentarians over what they called misappropriation of funds.
Subsequently, a petition was forwarded to the Assembly, calling for the reversal of the impeachment, saying, it was illegal.
The Assembly had then ordered all parties in the matter to maintain status quo pending the investigation and determination of the house on the matter.
It also convened an emergency meeting of the Assembly and summoned the embattled Chairman and the council’s parliamentarians to appear for the resolution of the matter.
However, while the council’s Chairman arrived the Assembly complex around 10:am to honoured the invitation of the House, none of the parliamentarians showed up.
Following this, the Assembly at a press briefing described the non-appearance of the parliamentarians as unfortunate, saying the two parties have been given another chance show up again next week.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Kunle Akande said, the Assembly has no preference for any of the parties in the matter, but interested in ensuring that proper processes are followed.
He hinted that pending the time the two parties state their sides, the Status quo ante should remain
Meanwhile, in a statement signed the leader of the council’s parliament, Badmus Akeem Olaiya and other members, Bolanle Ademuyiwa, Olawale Waheed Olayemi, Yinusa Muideen Ademola, they said they were not formally informed of the meeting.
They added that indicatons have shown that “we will not have a fair hearing at the so called meeting of reconciliation”.
“Besides, relevant Rules and Order of the House does not support the so-called meeting”, the statement stressed.
