Mr Success Ogunkolade, a philanthropist and a media expert on Wednesday distributed food items and hand sanitisers to 100 widows in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun.
Food items distributed by Ogunkolade, who is an indigene of Ijebu-Ijesa include rice, spaghetti, noddles, Maggie and milk.
Hand sanitisers and handwashing soaps were also distributed to the widows.
Ogunkolade, who is the CEO of Succex Multimedia, while distributing the food items from house to house in the town, said the gesture was his little way of supporting the widows during the lockdown in the state as directed by the government to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
It would be recalled that Gov. Gboyega Oyetola had on March 29, announced the total lockdown of the state for two weeks to combat the spread of the virus.
According to Ogunkolade, the items were also distributed so as to provide succour to indigent women, especially widows to reduce their anxiety of what to eat during the period.
He said, “I am distributing these food items to widows from house to house as part of my support at this period of lockdown due to coronavirus.
“There is no doubt there will be anxiety among these women during this period of lockdown in the state and that is why I am supporting them with their immediate needs”.
Ogunkolade, who sensitised the women on the outbreak of the virus, urged them to always wash their hands and also practice good hygiene.
According to him, the virus is a challenge to humanity and does not respect status, religion, tribe or political affiliation.
Ogunkolade urged them to stay safe by following health precautions given by government and other health professionals to stop the spread.
Some of the widows, however, commended Ogunkolade for the good gesture, describing it as a life saving step.
