Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have reportedly kidnapped about 14 passengers in Osun State.
An eyewitness, Chief Saka Adelu, recounted that the victims were in an Abuja-bound bus from Osogbo when the gunmen struck at Ajeoku junction, along Otan-ile-Okemesi road in Obokun Local Government of the state.
According to him some of the gunmen who pretended as passengers, boarded the bus from Osogbo before striking at the said location around 5pm on Sunday evening.
He said, 14 of the passengers were taken away, while others were left behind.
A leader of the Odua People’s Congress(OPC) in Osun confirmed the incident, saying his men and police officers were already on the trail of the gunmen to rescue the victims.
“It is true, some of the passengers who were left behind reported the case to our people at Otan-Ile, they said the criminals were in the bus with them from Osogbo, before they eventually struck.
“We are presently trailing them and we are going to definitely get them”.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Folashade Odoro could not be reached immediately, as she was said to be in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police when contacted.
