Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has said the nation’s economy deserved total overhauling especially in the face of poverty and high level of unemployment of youth in the country.
He spoke on Sunday in Ile-Ife during his procession to seven day seclusion in preparation for this year Olojo Festival.
According to him, the nation was in dire need of economic reformation and re-engineering to save the downtrodden from untold hardship.
He called on the federal government to be more alive to its responsibility and do away with distractions that could hinder the attainment of sustainable economic growth.
Oba Adeyeye who expressed confidence in the ability of members of the economic council just constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari charged the administration to ensure the implementation of the recommendations of the committee.
On the significance of the seclusion, the monarch said, it was a time to intercede with the spirit of his forefathers and pray for peace, progress and development of Ile-Ife, Yorubaland and the nation as a whole.
He emphasized the need for the promotion of Yoruba culture and traditions so as to showcase its beauty to the international community.
