Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye has warned the Commissioner and Special Adviser nominees in the state not to undermine the authority of the parliament when their nominations are approved.
Advising them to abide by the constitution and see the responsibilities assign to them as a way to impact the state, he told the nominees that the Assembly would be harsh on them if found guilty of undermining the law.
Owoeye spoke in his opening address while presiding over the screening of nominees on Monday.
He said, “Osun State House of Assembly will not take it lightly if any Commissioner or Special Adviser is found undermining the constitution”
The Speaker stressed that the House will be strict and thorough during the screening, saying, “We will not shy away from our constitutional responsibilities”.
It would be recalled that the governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola last Wednesday forwarded the List of Commissioners and Special Advisers nominees to the Assembly for screening.
The nominees that had been screened so far were, the former President, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mrs Funke Adenike Egbemode; former Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovations in the state, Mr Oluremi Omowaye; former Chief Whip of the Assembly, Oladoyin Olayinka Folorunso; Ibitoye Felix Adeniran and Adebisi Obawale Simeon.
Others include Oladepo Solagbade Atanda, Ajisefini Abiodun, Ogunfolaju Christiana Olusola and Nathaniel Agunbiade.
Responding to questions from the lawmakers, Egbemode promised to build a healthy relationship between the state government and the media if deployed to head the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
